Trading standards officers are warning Dorset residents about copycat websites dealing with applications and renewals of Blue Badge disabled parking permits.
The unregulated websites may appear to offer a quick and easy application but in fact charge at least £49 for minimal help in completing the application form, and they have no authority to issue a Blue Badge.
Dorset residents who use these sites will still have to submit their applications to Dorset County Council and pay a further £10 to cover the genuine application fee.
These copycat websites are in no way affiliated to the Blue Badge scheme and many ask for personal information such as bank details and National Insurance numbers, which could be used for further fraud.
To report a problem with a copycat website contact the Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 04 05 06. For information about the Blue Badge scheme and how to apply please visit: www.dorsetforyou.com/blue-badge .

A magnificent £4000 was made on the evening of the promises auction and Halloween event.
The playpark committee would like to say a huge thank you to all who helped in setting up the event, donating promises for the auction, writing the catalogue, helping on the evening and cleaning up after the event. It was just wonderful to see so many local people enjoying the evening and supporting a much needed amenity for the village.
The playpark committee have a teaching session planned from Dorset Community Action in February on project planning and getting ourselves ‘fit for funding’ enabling us to apply for larger grants and funding. We will be seeking the views and opinions from the local community on what amenities parishioners would like to see in the park so do please get involved. We have been extremely fortunate to secure a £1200 grant from village SOS to kick start the project.
You may have noticed some work being carried out in the playpark already. This is to make the park safe from a healthy and safety point and to comply with child protection legislation. Rotten stiles and fencing have been removed, and the hedge facing the surgery. This will hopefully help with reducing vandalism and making the park a safer place to be as it is less enclosed.
We are looking for volunteers to join our grass cutting rota and maintenance days in the playpark. This will provide the opportunity to save a lot of money on maintenance contractors, that can be put towards the playpark amenities. If you are able to volunteer a couple of hours on an occasional basis please contact Milton Abbas Parish Clerk.
